Meditation
Instructor: Dee Johnston
Wednesdays 6:30- 7:30pm
Cost: $10.00/session at the door
Meditation has been practiced the world over for centuries and many forms and disciplines have been developed. No one method of meditation is considered superior to another. There are structured and unstructured types of meditation and each person will find the method that works best for her or himself.
Meditation is not mystical or religious, although many religions worldwide practice forms of meditation, such as prayer. We meditate to find, to recover, to come back to something of ourselves we once may have unknowingly had and lost without knowing what it was, or where or when we lost it.
Some of us have minds that just can’t seem to slow down, especially in this neurotic world we have created. Just to function in today’s world, we are expected to multi-task, hurry and finish the job, meet timelines, and we are constantly bombarded with information and facts. Many people don’t know what silence is; they seem to have developed a need for continuous “noise”, whether it be music, talking, TV, or just white background noise. When the mind does not have an opportunity to rest and regenerate, creativity becomes buried within the noise. You are unable to achieve a state of serenity and may feel anxious and stressed most of the time.
Like anything worthwhile, meditation takes practice. It is not simply closing your eyes, counting your breaths and remembering your list of “to-dos”. Since it is the mind’s job to move, to ponder, to remember and plan, you may have found it difficult to quiet this remarkable process in the past. . If you have tried quieting the mind before and given up, you may find that guided meditation gives you the focus that is desired to reach a higher state of consciousness.
Join our meditations every Wednesday evening and begin to find a sense of yourself, a place of peace where you can regenerate and refuel. Reward yourself in a truly healthful way! Aren’t you worth an hour a week to enjoy the benefits of quieting the mind?
You won’t need to bring anything with you unless you prefer to sit on the floor, then a meditation pillow or yoga mat may be more suitable for you. Otherwise, there are comfortable chairs with backs to sit in. Wear loose-fitting and comfortable clothing and just come prepared to relax and enjoy!
Looking forward to meeting you. Namaste’, Dee
